I'm here to vent my frustration!Okay, from young, I have participated in unofficial(and informal) debates. I learnt how to argue/out-talk because of the fact that I had always been bullied by my cousin and brother. Because I'm not knowledgeable enough and don't know what they're talking about. Sorry this is unrelated. I was caught blabbering again. A debate will be on a topic right?
For an formal debate, there will be an opponent. Then you will first announce who side you're taking. Then give evidence. Then rebutt with more evidence but continue to provide the secondary evidance that you're staying on topic.
I'm trying not to sound like an expert. The unofficial and informal debates are actually discussions between friends. But it's stil quite the same except you're more friendly.
In the debate that happened in Zhi Yong's blog (although I seriously regretted spamming the tagboard because I made a nuisance of myself), as it went along, I realised that Si Hao wasn't really paying attention nor really providing sufficient evidence for me to believe the font size should be changed. Maybe he was just finding someone to agree with him. If his evidence was sufficient then Yun Yu and my debate was more than enough! He went further and further, such that I was irritated and told him he wasn't really debating. I knew I hurt his pride but it was true. I had also told him the debate was leading to nowhere. I knew someone was going to be offended. I told them. Cause it was leading to nowhere. Then when he ended, he ended with a side note saying I didn't know a thing about debates. Maybe he was right but sorry, if it was the case why was he even bothering to start the debate with me? In debates, yes someone has to "lose" pride but you don't purposely say things to hurt that person's intelligence.
It was okay with me after a while to be insulted because in the end, it doesn't really matter at all. I really tried not to offend him and make foes with him. Well, he still got offended.
